LA DOMBES , THE LAND OF PONDS AND BIRDS … A CATCHING TERRITORY!

First piscicultural in freshwater region, with its ancestral traditions (pond fishing, horse breeding, …), paradise of any living birds, an exceptional fauna and flora in a preserved wilderness, many religious and civilan buildings, hiking and bike trail, a renowned cuisine, festive events, … one never gets bored in La Dombes!

  • Visit the thrilling city of Lyon, Cerdon caves, the town of Chatillon and its market , visit of Bourg en Bresse, Trévoux and the Saône river banks, Ars basilica…

 

Bourg-en-Bresse (30 km)

Located exactly between Lyon et Geneva, Bourg-en-Bresse is a city with a glorious past which managed to keep an original heritage that comes from a succession of evolutions. Bourg-en-Bresse is a former Roman city with a profusion of ancient buildings and memories which evokes a glorious past. You can explore medieval wooden houses, the facades of the Renaissances with its former mansions, the church of Notre-Dame, and many other attractions.

Bourg owes its architectural reputation to the superb monastry commissioned by Marguerite of Austria. The gastronomic  reputation of the Bresse region has established itself as well : the chicken of Bresse, frogs, blue cheese of Bresse, Bressan pie… Gourmands and gourmets will certainly enjoy the regional cuisine.

Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne (15 km)

Locates between the land of Dombes and the land of Bresse, near the mounts of Beaujolais, Chatillon is a welcoming city with a remarkable heritage. Chatillon holds a big market every saturday where many local artisans are represented. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to dive into the atmosphere of the town and to discover its popular cathedral looking “Halles” which can go up to 80m.

La Cité médiévale de Pérouges (20 km)

Pérouges is classified amongst the most beautiful villages of France ! This former town of weavers will charm you not only with its typical Middle-Age architecture and its houses dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, but also by its paved streets and its fortified church.

Lyon (40 km)

Lyon is only a 30 minutes away from our campsite! Beyond its international fame as capital of the gastronomy, Lyon is one of the most attractive ciies in Europe thanks to its quality of life and its outstanding ecojnomical dynamism. Explore the old capital “des Gaulles”, its relics, its World heritage classified districts and its renowned museums. it is a city of art and culture! Due to its history, rich heritage, numerous cultural and atistics events, magnificent areas for leisure activities, and also the remarkable arrangement of its river banks, lyon is a wonderful city that you will absolutely want to visit.
